During World War II several Wars were being fought. The outcome\u00a0was huge loss of lives, and damage to infrastructures such as airports,\u00a0<\/span>military bases, hospitals, reservoirs. This resulted in orphanage, spread\u00a0<\/span>of diseases and extreme poverty. Battle of Britain<\/span><\/p>

The Battle of Britain was an important one. It started on July 10th,\u00a0<\/span>1940. It lasted many months as the Germans continued to bomb Britain.\u00a0<\/span>Although the German bombings continued, the British did not stop\u00a0<\/span>fighting back. Hitler began to get frustrated at how long it was taking\u00a0<\/span>to defeat Great Britain. He soon switched tactics and started bombing\u00a0<\/span>large cities including London. Although the Germans had more planes\u00a0<\/span>and pilots, the British were able to fight them off and win the battle.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Battle of Atlantic<\/b><\/p>

During World War II both the\u00a0Allies and the Axis Powers fought\u00a0<\/span>for control of the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0<\/span>The Allies wanted to use the\u00a0<\/span>Atlantic to resupply Great Britain\u00a0<\/span>and the Soviet Union in their fight\u00a0<\/span>against Germany and Italy. The\u00a0<\/span>Axis Powers wanted to stop them.\u00a0<\/span>The Battle of the Atlantic took\u00a0<\/span>place throughout the northern\u00a0<\/span>region of the Atlantic Ocean, but\u00a0<\/span>the battle spread all the way to\u00a0<\/span>the coast of the United States and the Caribbean Sea once the United\u00a0<\/span>States joined in. The early battles in the Atlantic favored the Germans.\u00a0<\/span>They used their submarines to sneak up on British ships and sink them\u00a0<\/span>with torpedoes. The Allies lost a lot of ships over the first few years.<\/span><\/p>

In 1943, the Allies were successful in breaking the German secret\u00a0codes and had developed new technologies for fighting submarines.\u00a0<\/span>The Allies used radar to locate the enemy ships and they made use\u00a0<\/span>of special new underwater bombs called \u201cHedgehogs\u201d that helped to\u00a0<\/span>destroy the submarines. The losses in the battle were staggering. Over\u00a0<\/span>30,000 sailors were killed on each side. The Allies lost around 3,500\u00a0<\/span>supply ships and 175 warships. The Germans lost 783 submarines.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Battle of Stalingrad<\/b><\/p>

The Battle of Stalingrad was one\u00a0of the largest and deadliest battles\u00a0<\/span>in World War II. Stalingrad was\u00a0<\/span>located in Southwest Russia on the\u00a0<\/span>Volga River. The battle took place\u00a0<\/span>during the last part of 1942 and\u00a0<\/span>early 1943. The battle began when\u00a0<\/span>the German air force, the Luftwaffe,\u00a0<\/span>bombed the Volga River and the\u00a0<\/span>then city of Stalingrad. The German\u00a0<\/span>army moved in and was able to take a large portion of the city.<\/span><\/p>

However, the Soviet troops were not ready to give up. Fighting in the\u00a0city of Stalingrad was fierce. Soviets hid all over the city, in buildings\u00a0<\/span>and even the sewers, attacking the German soldiers. In November, the\u00a0<\/span>Soviets gathered and made a counter attack. They trapped the German\u00a0<\/span>army inside of Stalingrad. Soon the Germans began to run out of food.\u00a0<\/span>Finally, weak from lack of food and freezing from the cold winter,\u00a0<\/span>the majority of the German army surrendered. Hitler was angry with\u00a0<\/span>General Paulus for surrendering. He expected Paulus to fight to death\u00a0<\/span>or commit suicide, rather than surrender.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Battle of the Bulge<\/b><\/p>

The Battle of the Bulge was a major battle in Europe during World War\u00a0II. It was Germany\u2019s final attempt to drive the Allies off of mainland\u00a0<\/span>Europe. Most of the troops involved on\u00a0<\/span>the Allied side were American troops. It\u00a0<\/span>is considered one of the greatest battles\u00a0<\/span>ever fought by the United States military.\u00a0<\/span>After the Allies had freed France and\u00a0<\/span>defeated Germany at Normandy, many\u00a0<\/span>thought that World War II in Europe\u00a0<\/span>was coming to an end. However, Adolf\u00a0<\/span>Hitler of Germany had different ideas.\u00a0<\/span>Early in the morning on December 16,\u00a0<\/span>1944, Germany launched a major attack.<\/span><\/p>

It was winter and the weather was snowy and cold. The Americans were\u00a0not ready for the attack. The Germans broke through the line and killed\u00a0<\/span>thousands of American troops. They tried to advance quickly. Despite\u00a0<\/span>the quick advance and the overwhelming forces of the Germans, many\u00a0<\/span>American soldiers held their ground. They did not want Hitler to take\u00a0<\/span>over again. It was small groups of American troops throughout the\u00a0<\/span>front who dug in and held out until reinforcements could come that\u00a0<\/span>won the battle for the Allies.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
