The Mauritius Institute, founded in virtue of Ordinance No. 19 of 1880, functioned as a national scientific and cultural institution mainly dedicated to carrying out research and disseminating knowledge.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2\">The Mauritius Museums Council has under its purview two National and five Specialised Museums.<\/p><p class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2\"><strong>National Museums<\/strong>:<\/p><blockquote class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2\"><ol><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ol><li style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Natural History Museum, Port Louis<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">National History Museum, Mahebourg<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/blockquote><p><b class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2\">Specialised Museums:<\/b><\/p><blockquote class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2\"><ol><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ol><li style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Memorial Centre for Culture, Port Louis<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Robert Edward Hart Memorial Museum, Souillac.<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Sookdeo Bissoondoyal Memorial Museum, Tyack<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Frederik Hendrik Museum, Old Grand Port<\/li><li style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Museum of Indian Immigration, Moka<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/blockquote><ul class=\"ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2\"><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li>Peopling of Mauritius Museum, Pointe Canon ( administered by MMC)<\/li><li>Millennium Monument Site, Wooton.
