{"id":2852,"date":"2020-12-10T10:49:05","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T10:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goc2020.govmu.org\/mmc_20210703\/?post_type=news&#038;p=2852"},"modified":"2021-05-20T11:28:09","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T11:28:09","slug":"international-museum-day-2017","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/mauritiusmuseums.govmu.org\/mauritiusmuseums\/?news=international-museum-day-2017","title":{"rendered":"International Museum Day &#8211; 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2c2e30\">International Museum Day is celebrated on 18 May every year and the theme for this year is &#8220;Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in Museums&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2c2e30\">In the context of International Museum Day 2017, the Mauritius Museums Council has put on display an exhibition commemorating 450 years birth anniversary of Pieter Both<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2c2e30\">&#8220;Pieter Both<br>Premier gouverneur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des Indes orientales n\u00e9erlandaises et son naufrage \u00e0 l\u2019\u00eele Maurice en 1615&#8243;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2c2e30\">at the National History Museum, Mahebourg. The Exhibition will remain open to visitors untill the end of October 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2c2e30\">This Exhibition relates the life of Pieter Both .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2c2e30\">Pieter Both born at Amersfoort in Holland in 1567 was the first Governor \u2013 General of the Dutch East Indies from 1610 to 1614.<br>On Christmas day of 1614, he set sail from Bantam and unfortunately, it was the cyclonic season when he reached Mauritius on 6 March 1615.
