2014"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#222425\">In the context of the International Museum Day, the theme retained by the ICOM for year 2014 is \u201cMuseum collections make connection\u201d.&nbsp;To mark the International Museum Day 2014, the Mauritius Museums Council has organized the following activities:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#222425\"><strong>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Opening of a \u2018Nature Gallery\u2019<\/strong> <br>The official opening of a new Gallery named as the \u201cNature Gallery\u201d which is the third gallery of the Natural History Museum, Chauss\u00e9e, Port Louis.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Gallery has been inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Honourable Mookhesswur Choonee, in the presence of the Chairman of the Mauritius Museums Board on 29 May 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#222425\">The objective of this \u201cNature Gallery\u201d is to inculcate the importance and the necessity to preserve nature among the visitors.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Gallery depicts different worldwide minerals, fossils, endangered specimens in the ocean for example, the aquatic mammal, the Dugong, a beautiful exhibition on horns and antlers and a display on some birds and eggs in their habitats.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#222425\"><strong>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A temporary exhibition on Mauritius Railways.<\/strong> <br>Railways were introduced in Mauritius during British colony around 1856 and was suppressed in 1964.<br><br>&nbsp;The inspiration for building a railway network in Mauritius was of vital importance to improve the means to transport sugar crops from different sugar estates to Port Louis.&nbsp;&nbsp;At that time, there were about 262 sugar estates and about 125,000 tons of sugar crop were being produced annually.&nbsp;&nbsp;The exhibition will be opened to visitors up to 12th&nbsp;June 2014 at the Mauritius Institute Building, Chauss\u00e9e, Port Louis and transfered to the National History Museum, Mahebourg as from 16th June 2014&nbsp;&nbsp;to 5th July 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"214\" src=\"https:\/\/goc2020.govmu.org\/mmc_20210703\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2830\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mauritiusmuseums.govmu.org\/mauritiusmuseums\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s1-1.jpg 690w, https:\/\/mauritiusmuseums.govmu.org\/mauritiusmuseums\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s1-1-300x93.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mauritiusmuseums.govmu.org\/mauritiusmuseums\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s1-1-600x186.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"214\" src=\"https:\/\/goc2020.govmu.org\/mmc_20210703\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2831\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mauritiusmuseums.govmu.org\/mauritiusmuseums\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s2-1.jpg 690w, https:\/\/mauritiusmuseums.govmu.org\/mauritiusmuseums\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s2-1-300x93.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mauritiusmuseums.govmu.org\/mauritiusmuseums\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/2014-s2-1-600x186.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the context of the International Museum Day, the theme retained by the ICOM for year 2014 is \u201cMuseum collections make connection\u201d.&nbsp;To mark the International Museum Day 2014, the Mauritius Museums Council has organized the following activities:&nbsp;
